Where fierce debates and bold arguments collide! This high-energy event pits teams against each other in a thrilling mix of roundtable discussions, rapid-fire Turncoat speeches, and formal debates.

Tackle hot topics, challenge conventions, and switch sides on the fly as you showcase your debating skills. With intense rounds and a quest for ultimate debater glory, it's time to prove you've got the nerve to stand your ground and the savvy to twist the debate in your favour.

Rules

  • The participants must be courteous to other participants, the judges, and teachers.
  • The topics will be intimated any time before the event.
  • The participants must speak in turn. Any use of foul/derogatory language will result in immediate disqualification.
  • The judges have the right to silence any participant to allow for fair debate.
  • Participants can be asked to flip sides in the debate if required.

Event outline

  • Team Registration:
    • Each team consists of 2 members. One member must register with their details and their partner's details.
  • Round 1 - Roundtable Discussion:
    • Teams are assigned a stance on "Electoral Bonds: Was Scrapping It a Good Idea?"
    • Only one member speaks at a time. Personal remarks, foul language, and internet use are prohibited.
    • Points of individual members are added to determine the team’s score.
  • SUBROUND - Turncoat Event:
    • Each team member speaks both for and against "One Nation, One Election."
    • The speech lasts 3.5 minutes per individual, divided into opening, supporting, and closing statements.
    • Scores from individual performances are combined to determine the team’s cumulative score.
  • Round 2 - Formal Debate Final:
    • Finalists are assigned a stance on the spot and given 10 minutes to prepare.
    • The debate follows a formal debate style, with each participant delivering structured arguments and rebuttals.
    • Teammates are split, and individual winners are selected.
  • Judging Criteria:
    • Accuracy: Correctness of the answers in Round 1.
    • Confidence: How confidently teams answer in Round 1 and present in Round 2.
    • Expression: Creativity and expression in describing or acting out scenes.
    • Teamwork: Collaboration between team members, especially in Round 2.
